Crackberry? The RIMM addiction continues

As most of you now know RIMM just officially released the Blackberry 9000 aka BOLD. The presence of this phone has been known and rumored for a good year now, and someone actually purchased one from Ebay and posted a review on May 7. That review can be seen here.

All in all RIMM appears to have a bonafide successor to its crown. The screen is actually the same resolution as the iphone but smaller because of the very necessary keyboard. Because of a higher pixel density, it will look even sharper than AAPL's iphone's. There is 3G (HSDPA !and! EV-DO) and a GPS. Here's a break down of the stats thanks to http://www.engadget.com:

  • 480 x 320 display
  • 625MHz CPU, 1GB internal flash memory
  • 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2Dp), GPS, MicroSDHC
  • 480 x 320 video recording, photo geotagging
  • 4.5 x 2.6 x 0.55-inches, 4.7 ounces
The only problem seems to be the size and weight of the device, which lie a bit on the large side. The release of this device really let the reins off of the stock as RIMM pushed to new highs yesterday and hasn't pulled back one bit today. To be honest, even with a new operating system this device isn't revolutionary. It's evolutionary, and it is clearly made for the crackberry faithful. Huge increase in revenues? Probably not. Sustained addiction for most of corporate America? Definitely. I'm more excited about the release of the HTC Diamond and its keyboard bearing brother, to be honest. They will probably be the first sought after windows mobile devices and should demonstrate what type of presence Microsoft can really have in this newly ultra competitive environment.
